Combating the American Idol of 'More'

The sermon series at my church right now is 'American Idols' So far, we've covered More and Success, but it was the sermon on More that really hit home with me. Here is the sermon on youtube; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zj8qAK6cvqA&t=1436s

What struck home with me was that it talked about the things I'm trying to work through right now:

1. Contentment - learning to desire less Philippians 4:12 - I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty for I have learned to be content in all circumstances and 1st Timothy 6:6&7 - But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world and we take nothing out of it

2. Gratitude - a grateful heart is a happy heart

3. Trust - trust in God for my security more than 'More' - Philippians 1:9 - And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in the knowledge and depth of insight.

'More' doesn't give me give me security or influence or happiness. All it does is steal my contentment, my gratitude, my trust in how much I really have and in God's provision.
